Our trip to Queensland took a bit of a knock with the bad weather, so much so that our hotel Silky Oaks Lodge was rained out and one could not gain access to it as the whole area was flooded. In the end, we stayed at the Sheraton in Port Douglas which is a lovely hotel recently renovated with a pool that surrounds the whole hotel – which I am sure is even more impressive when the sun is shining. We couldn’t swim in the sea but the girls made the best of the pool which was a bit like Sun City where they have beach sand on the one side that leads into the water. We didn’t explore much of the town, just had lunch at a local cafe but it turned out to be a good base as it wasn’t far then to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventure and Mossman Gorge which were our now revised plans for our time in Queensland.
