Currently, the spare room is an open space loft, and so this area is going to have quite a bit of work done: removal of the wooden loft bed, a new wall needs to be built, a door installed, a wall knocked down, another door installed, another wall to be built, lots of bathroom fittings to be moved and installed… and then hopefully we will have a large private guest room with ensuite shower. Naturally this is all on the builder – and I just get to focus on the décor.

I have to laugh though because this is the second time that when designing a spare bedroom, I end up loving the look more than the Main Bedroom but in both cases you could not swap them around. Maybe, it is because I have chosen dark, moody colours for the main bedroom and soft neutrals for the pare room – and I am partial to the later.

The Spare Bedroom has a bit of a “Ski” theme going on and therefore white and soft neutrals: cream and flax play the main role. I, however have added a bit of dark blue mainly because of these great cushions (Let’s Go Skiing and Eat, Sleep, Ski) I sourced from Snow Fox in Australia. I am saving all my pretty pennies to buy two of these Engadina ski pillow cases from Christian Fischbacher – their linen is crazy expensive so I am hoping that I will be able to get even just these before they sell out.

As you know my new favourite shop is Riviera Maison which I sourced through a local shop here in Baar: Jaspers and Co. The shop has the best goodies and it worked out so well that 90% of our furniture could be ordered, delivered and installed by them – so this is sure to make everything easier come moving in time.

As for the art in the room, this room is the “loft” of the apartment, so it has very tall walls and lots of them. This is one of the reasons I opted for a four poster bed. And then directly opposite I am doing a full on gallery wall of Vintage Ski Posters. I am so glad I finally get to do this. Even when we lived in Rotkreuz, our first few years of being here in Switzerland I had two of these up, so it is going to be great to have a whole wall devoted to this great art form. I found lots of options at allposters.com and then I am going to get these all framed at Mueller Rahmen in Baar.

Still on the lookout for a double size bed fur quilt and a large white mirror for above the desk/dresser, but I think this room is well on it’s way to being a great post-ski haven.
