International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. This year, I was running around on the day so didn’t have time to celebrate properly but next year for sure. I did learn something new though: In Italy the holiday is known as La Festa della Donna. The Mimosa flower which blooms at this time of year has become a universal symbol and is given to women on March 8th.  Giving mimosa flowers on March 8th is not considered a romantic gesture but one of solidarity.
