Last year, I mentioned the tradition of Samichlaus in Switzerland, and this year was extra special as for the first time he paid a visit to our home. In the first week of December, Samichalus together with his Schmutzli came down our road ringing their bells and knocked on our door. After the greetings (typically Bailey even dished out hugs to Schmutzli!), we sat down where Samichalus read from his big book the girls’ “Sundenliste”. Fortunately, he was very proud of their school work, their chores and general behaviour with just a few “pointers” for next year; so the “Samichlaus sacklis” were received with much delight and a little bit of relief from Schmutzli! It was great fun to be part of this very Swiss Christmas tradition.
Here is a little peek of the festivities and our house decked out for the occasion…
