For Liam’s 40th Birthday, I surprised him by having his Mom, Dad and Brother with family flying over for a week holiday in Switzerland. Fortunately, his real birthday fell on the Saturday and everyone arrived Wednesday night and Friday morning – so all in time to head for Burgenstock in Luzern for the weekend. The Resort is in a word AMAZING and so deserving of it’s status as Hotel of the Year 2019.
We arrived in Luzern in the morning and headed to the Swiss Transport Museum for a bit of touring and lunch. We then returned to the main train station to board the Burgenstock Boat. The trip was so scenic and another great reason to stay at the Resort as the boat trip and cog wheel railway up the mountain are included.
After we disembarked and checked in, it was time for the main event: swimming in their heated infinity pool that overlooks the lake. It was breathtaking and definitely the highlight of the birthday: Liam with all of his family and best friend since birth swimming in argubaly one of the most stunning pools in the world.
Afterwards, we all returned to our rooms to get ready for the pre-dinner cocktails (and mocktails for the little ones) in the Lobby Bar and then for Dinner at Spices. The Asian food was faultless and we enjoyed everything from Sushi and Dumplings to Thai Green Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala! Even the simple dessert of mango ice cream came in an over the top coconut bowl with dry ice steam – and ironically Liam’s birthday surprise was not nearly as impressive with just a sparkler – ha ha!
The rest of the evening and next morning was spent enjoying the luxurious bedroom and bathroom complete with a huge jacuzzi style bath also overloking the lake and a fireplace and TV too! The breakfast was excellent and it was a pity we needed to catch the boat so soon as we were really impressed with the shops on site: Omega, Longines, Swatch, the Swiss Chocolate Chalet and their Sky Boutique had a large selection of premium Swiss souvenirs.
