We arrived in Kathmandu at the end of a very busy week travelling in India, so our enthusiasm for touring was less than normal. Therefore, when it came to touring temples in the City we limited it to the temple up the road from our Hotel: we hadn’t booked an official tour and I am glad that we did not. The reason being that only if you are Hindu are you actually allowed in the temple. Fortunately, we were able to walk right up the entrance and many people were in and around the building performing religious rituals and we were able to spot one of the golden monkeys.

We did enjoy walking the streets, albeit it very dry and dusty. My favourite sights were the colourful stores selling floral garlands, the bunting strung up overhead and the street vendors selling candy floss and ice cream!
