My mantra for 2018 was “Enjoy the little things in life… for one day you’ll look back and realise they were the big things.” And for most of the year, I made a point of taking a photo at least once day of something little that brought me joy and I posted it on Instagram, It really helped me worry a lot less about not doing something “big” or “important” and helped me realise that there are things that I do that have value and I just need to decide to “enjoy” it.
So, for the past few weeks I have been thinking about what will my 2019 Mantra be? And I knew immediately when I opened my fortune cookie the other night when just Bailey and I went for sushi, that this was it:
Isn’t it great? It is actually a quote by Mark Twain and the full quote reads:
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”
So often, I have an idea or a plan or a task I must do; and I think about it and then think about it again; but never really get started on it and then I feel like a “failure” or start to stress about it. When actually I should just make a start and not worry so much about every step or twist and turn that can happen in the future. And focus just on the first step; and do it.
Last year, it worked out well taking a photo a day of my “enjoythelittlethings” mantra and so this year expect to see a daily pic of my “gettingstarted”.
Do you have a mantra for 2019? I’d love to hear it, so please do share!
