Over the Spring long weekend, we went to the Greek island of Zakynthos. Our main reason for visiting this island was its close proximity to the mainland and the ancient city of Olympia. Also, it has a direct flight from Zurich to Zakynthos with Edelweiss – and so in under 2h30 minutes you can be on the Grecian beaches!

We stayed at the Lesante Hotel and it was good. It is not the best hotel we have ever stayed in, but the breakfast buffet was excellent and their pool and nearby sea access were big pluses. We preferred having dinner at the local tavernas (the food choices and prices were much better) instead of the hotel’s dinner buffet but we really did enjoy their pool side restaurant for casual Greek lunches. We heard that the adults only Lesante hotel is better and right next to the beach, so next time we will have to ditch the little people to check it out!

We enjoyed dinner the one evening in the town along the shore and if you are looking for a great meal, we would highly recommend the Madions Kitchen Bar and Cafe – naturally their décor was a huge draw card for me! And whilst we did not have time to venture out on another day trip – the boat trip to Shipwreck Island is a must see!
