Entertaining kids at a party is sometimes quite a task, but here are a few tricks that I have learnt that can “take up time” if you need to, or can be quickly done if you are short of time.
- Have a Prize Giving: play a few games where there are no winners but also play one or two where there are. That way at the end of the party, you can hand out a prize to the winners. Line up the prizes and have guests choose their favourite.
- Have an Award Ceremony: at Bailey’s Cowboy Party the kids went to “Sheriff School”, at Zara’s Harry Potter party, the guests went to “Hogwarts” and at the Science Party, the girls will go to Zara’s Secret Lab and perform experiments. At the end of the day, each guest will be awarded a Science Certificate.
- Open the Gifts: Have everyone sit in a circle and give their gift to the birthday boy or girl. Use this opportunity to take note of the gift given and have the recipient thank each guest properly. (To make this a longer activity: have the guests hide their gifts, and the birthday girl or boy must hunt for them whilst they are told if they are “getting hotter or colder”.
- Fish for Favours: one can simply hand out the favours as guests leave, or have your guests hunt for their favours or “fish for them”. String up a blanket and have guests “cast a line” over the blanket and hook their party favour. A good laugh can be had by sometimes hooking a shoe or an empty bag.
