Of all the places Zara wanted to go in Scotland, top of the list was The Elephant House aka The Birthplace of Harry Potter. This is the coffee shop in Edinburgh where JK Rowling spent a significant amount of time writing the first Harry Potter Book. The shop remains unchanged and only has a few references to JK Rowling and Harry Potter and there lies it’s charm.

We enjoyed a typical Scottish breakfast of a soft bread roll with sausage and bacon – but for the hungry there are eggs and pancakes too. The coffee was excellent and even included cute elephant chocolate sprinkles! Not only did Zara’s wish come true but I loved how she could imagine many a future writer sitting on one of their stools and dreaming up some amazing new novel!

P.S. If you venture downthe main road at the end you will find a store full of Harry Potter memorabilia and Zara got an early birthday present of Wizard Chess!
