For our first morning in Shanghai we took a walking tour of the former French Concession, once Shanghai’s leading residential and retail area. Today, the qualities that made the area so popular endure — from quaint, tree-lined streets and exquisite architecture to charming shops – our favourite shop was bright yellow and had the most gorgeous packaging for tea cookies, tea cake and tea leaves. I would also totally recommend heading here in the afternoon and then staying a while, so you can enjoy dinner at one of the many fashionable restaurants and bars.
