“Fasnacht” started last week in Zug. It is what you would know as Mardi Gras or Carnival – a big celebration in the streets just before Lent starts. Here in Switzerland, each town have their own traditions and their own schedule, and so in fact where I thought all the posters in Zug of “Chesslete” were refering to a Chess Tournament, it is in fact what the City of Zug calls their main Carnival Parade Day which was held Thursday 23rd February; also know as Dirty Thursday.

I’ve see the parades in Zug and in Luzern but always by accident, so I am thrilled that this year Bailey’s class took part in the Kids Parade. At home, I decided to give our Seasonal Table a change, and it is now sporting all the typical Mardi Gras carnival decorations: beads, masks albeit in the colours of New Orleans’s Carnival: green, purple and gold. (Next year I will have to go more Swiss style!).
