Our December long weekend coincided perfectly with the Vienna Theatre’s Christmas Season and their annual Opera performance for kids and including kids! The Pinocchio performance was excellent, and as the followed the traditional story I was able to follow along the German dialogue – the girls even more so! But even if you don’t speak a word, the actors’ actions and the stage and set are iin themselves throughly enjoyable and universal! What a great introduction to the World of Opera for the girls!
TRAVEL TIPS: Book early, as the shows are exceptionally popular especially around the holidays. If you book tickets online be sure to ask for definite row and seat numbers, as we ended up having two sets split across the concert hall. Lastly, the Volksoper is a bit out of the main city centre, so we took a taxi there and back and it was relatively inexpensive (albeit the tram lines are right next door, so if you have a day pass then you can just hop on and off). (Call TAXI 40100 – and they arrive within minutes).
