On our first day in the city of Xi’an, we arrived late in the afternoon (traffic!) but still decided we had time to make The Tang Dynasty Dinner Show. The dinner was a huge variety of dumplings, all in different shapes – hinting at what was inside. So for example the pork ones were shaped like little pigs and fish ones like fish (see below).

Afer dinner we went into the theatre and enjoyed a wonderful performance of ancient music and dance. The city of Xi’an which was formerly known as Chang’an, has a very long history and was the imperial capital during 13 dynastic periods. Of these, the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907) was the most prosperous and glorious of all. The Tang Dynasty Show is an outstanding representation of this ancient stable and prosperous society, keeping alive its splendid culture and providing an insight into the peaceful lifestyle of the period.

We particularly loved the dances where the ladies wore the very long-sleeved dresses…
